When I was pregnant, I knew I wanted to cloth diaper, but I figured it would have to be part-time. My day care provider, aka Mom/ Mimi, was 100% on my cloth diaper train. I just didn't think that Michael would be on board. Honestly, he still wouldn't be if Tate hadn't had such a reaction to the chemicals in disposables. Now, I wish I hadn't put all my eggs in one basket... twice!
My stash started with a lot of g diapers, 4 Mother-ease, 6 bleached infant prefolds, 6 Tiny Tush unbleached infant prefolds, a Bummis Super Whisper Wrap, 2 Imse Vimse covers, a Mother-ease cover and pins. Since the g diaper inserts were so expensive and I would have to drive more than 30 miles just to restock, I figured we would do things the old fashioned way with pins most of the time. I knew about Snappis, but they looked too intimidating. I tried one later and found I was still more comfortable with pins.
I wish I would have done my research before hand and also learned from my cousin Camille's negative experience with g diapers. Although I like the inserts and the covers are super cute, especially now that they are coming out with patterns, I do not like the system. I still use the inserts but with my bumgenius covers.
Camille and her mom are also the one's that turned me on to bumgenius. I read all about them and was still skeptical after my disasterous first experience. I was getting pretty quick with the prefolds and pins, but Tate was growing out of them fast. So I had to come up with something. My mom bought our first 2 bumgenius' for Christmas. Yes, I asked for cloth diapers for Christmas. She let us try one early and I loved it! I ordered 6 more then and 12 more fleece lined later.
I still love our bumgenius, but since joining Twitter, I have read more about other diapers. Since we have full stash now, my husband won't let me buy any more. There are so many new diapers I would love to try! The only way now to feed my addiction is to win the diapers I want to try. The advice I give others interested in trying cloth diapering is to try all different types. You don't know what you will love or hate, what works for you and what doesn't.
Our current stash is as follows: 8 bumgenius, 12 fleece bumgenius, 3 Smartipants, 6 Swaddlebee's bamboo flats, homemade prefold and contour diapers from recycled tshirts, 2 Bummis Whisper Wraps, 3 Bummis Super Whisper Wraps, 2 Imse Vimse covers, 2 M/L g diaper covers and inserts, a Mother-ease cover, a Lollidoo (won), a Bamboo Bum (won), and a OS AIO bumgenius (won).
Truly a cloth diaper addict! I think I did this right...

I had a little trouble with your link, but figured out how to get here.
ReplyDeleteI prefer pins too, I think the snappi is just one more unnecessary gadget. Your baby is so CUTE!!! Did you enter the Smartipants Baby of the Month contest?
It was my first time using McLinky, so I wasn't really sure what I was doing! I enjoy reading all the other cloth diapering mama blogs, so I thought I would try it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment. Yes, we entered the contest. I'm anxious to see who the wins!
I've never used the McLinky either but it seems to be working for all of us. I did the same thing - started with prefiolds figured I would never look at another diaper and then found that I loved other things. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI fixed your link ;) Now people can just click to get here. Again, I am impressed with any mama who uses pins! SInce diapers are so cute now it is hard to ever be completely happy with your stash. Poor wallets...
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! Thanks for the post! This is fun
