Project 365: 22-27

January 22: Michael hung a coat rack by the back door. I guess he got tired of me leaving it in the living room! It is in a convenient, yet awkward place. Our back door is right above the basement stairs. So the coats are actually above the stairs. But it works, so I shouldn't complain.

Friday evening, Tate had a little diaper rash due to the antibiotics he has been taking, so I let him run around sans diaper. I told him make sure you tell Mommy or Daddy if you need to go potty. In the back of my mind, I was thinking ha ha, but he surprised me. Sure enough, he started covering himself and ran towards the bathroom.
He seemed scared of the toilet, but definitly knew when he had to go. He went about 5 minutes after the fact. He started to go back towards the bathroom, but was hesitant. Let's just say, I had to clean the carpet. Thankfully, it was just wet! So these events led to Saturday's picture.

January 23: Potty learning
We let Tate pick out a chair. He will sit on it, but hasn't done anything in it yet. A lot of cloth diaper moms practice EC or elimination communication. It sounds like a good idea, but I should have started a lot sooner. We try it in the mornings, when we aren't running behind and in the evenings when I'm home.

January 24: We had my nephew's third birthday party. Notice the candles are just on his piece of cake and not the entire cake? The family learned the hard way that this is the best option, especially during cold and flu season. Last year, Drew had been sick prior to his birthday party, everyone that ate cake ended up with the same thing he had.

January 25: SLACKER!! I didn't take a single picture, not even on my phone. I was going to take a picture of Tate in his Big Monday KU garb, but it didn't happen. There was a good photo op at dinner, but I was so upset with him for throwing everything I gave him to eat. I gave him a berry mix I found in the freezer section and thought he would really enjoy. He doesn't like cold food- popsicles and ice cream included, so I let them get to room temperature thinking that would do the trick. Nope! After smearing the juice all over his stomach, chest and face, he threw them at me. As cute as his "berry war-paint" was, I wasn't about to encourage him.

January 26 and 27: Recycled cardboard collection
In my office, Tate has his own play area. Sometimes our freight comes is some pretty good size boxes and I used one for him to play in. I was on the phone yesterday morning and my dad happened to be in the office. He pointed out that Tate was on top of the box. He even kicked off his slippers for better climbing traction! He was very hard at work coloring on all my post-it notes.
This morning, he got stuck in the cardboard box we keep his toys in. He was not happy about it because I was laughing at him. Also, if you look close, there is a nice line on his face. He got in my make-up bag and played with my eyeliner. It runs from just below his right eye to under his nose.

  1. Cute pictures! Why do kids love cardboard boxes so much? And yet we still buy them toys. lol. :-)

  2. I'm jealous of the potty training!! I really really wanted to do EC with Ethan and had read up all about it when I was pregnant. But as you can imagine with his personality, a cold potty to the bottom was not his idea of fun. I tried off and on, but decided after the screaming fits it wasn't worth it. Maybe the next child will be more laid back and I can try?

Great idea with the birthday cake!! Often times I don't get kids birthday cake if I see spit go everywhere and that is where they cut the cake. ick! I think we will be doing separate cupcakes at our parties for a while.

  3. I read your comment- and have to say my boys absolutely love their dolls. My 8 year old even has one, just means they'll be good daddies, good luck on the potty training, it's been a nightmare in my house

  4. I'd love to do EC with my son, but I don't know if I'm around enough to stick to it!

Also, love the pics of your son playing in the boxes...who needs toys?
