Project 365: 36-41

So I am a week behind, but apparently, I accidentally installed some malware on my work computer. It has been in the shop since Monday.  It kept telling me that my anti-virus software was not installed and it kept trying to direct me to XXX and viagra sites! Don't people have better things to do with their time than to reak havoc on other people's computers, seriously? Luckily, now I know what to do in case it happens again.

Day 36: February 5- He looks like the purple people eater, but it's So Delicious blueberry yogurt. It's made from coconut milk and is the only yogurt we have found that is dairy, lactose and soy-free. This mess isn't near as bad as some.

After work Friday, we drove to Southwest KS to visit the in-laws. Tate got a nice 3 hour nap and then it was so noisy when we got there, he was up until after 12:30 AM. Or should I say he and Mommy were awake. We went to bed, but there was no sleeping.

Day 37: February 6- At home, Tate doesn't get to watch TV. If it is on while he's awake, we turn it to the satellite radio channels. Sometimes, he gets lucky enough to watch the KU games. At my in-laws, my nephews have a portable DVD player and DVDs in the corner of the living room. In theory, this is so they can watch what they want without bother everyone else. They put in a kid's sing-along DVD and Tate was entranced. He kept getting closer and closer to the screen.

Day 38: February 7- My mother-in-law got Tate and my nephews some chapstick as part of their Valentine presents. He has one dry spot on his lips that we usually put Burt's Bees on, so he knows how to put it on.
Day 39: February 8- Trying to put his cell phone in his pocket. I love his face when he finally go it in and then couldn't get it back out.
Day 40: February 9- A trip to the library. Aunt Amy works in the children's department and spoiled him. She let Tate listen to the CDs behind the desk to see if he liked them. We were looking for "The Wheels on the Bus" and found a "Toy Story 2" CD instead. When he saw it, he shouted "BUZZ!" to the entire library. Keep in mind, he's never seen either of the "Toy Story" movies, but he knows who the main characters are from his cousins.

Day 41: February 10- Tate has had a cough for several months now. It comes and goes depending on several factors. The doctor was hesitant to diagnose asthma at only 17 1/2 months. He put Tate on breathing treatments that include albuterol, the most common asthma medication.
This is the second time Tate has had to do breathing treatments. Last winter it was so much easier to get him to sit still! The treatments last 30 minutes. He really does pretty well, but 30 minutes is a long time for a busy little boy! Here he is watching a basketball game. Last night, that didn't work. He was so tired he didn't want to sit still. I broke down and sent Michael to the basement for "Toy Story." If he gets excited about Buzz and Woody in books and on a CD, I knew the video would keep him still long enough to finish the meds. Plus, you saw how he reacted to the kid's video at my in-laws and it wasn't even a cartoon!
Confession: I love Disney movies and have a pretty good collection in the basement under the TV stand. When Tate is older, I will share with him; but for now, I feel there are more important things developmentally for him to do than watch TV or movies. I try to be pretty strict about it, though it is hard when we stay with some family members. It is hard for most people to understand and respect my opinions on the subject. I know I'm in the minority, as is the case with a lot of things I do. Guess that's what makes me so unique!

  1. What fun pictures! Tate sounds so smart. I had read a book when I was pregnant about letting your children watch TV. I read you should at least wait until they are 2 years old. We tried really hard, but once they start becoming mobile it makes it more difficult if there is something that we want to watch. However, he still really doesn't even watch TV for very long and rather play with his toys.

  2. i have the same beliefs about TV watching....maybe it's in the blood?? LOL. anyway, i support, respect, and agree with your decision, and i try hard to follow the same philosophy. it's difficult as a single working parent to find time to do housework, and naptimes no long last long enough or are frequent enough on the weekends, so sometimes he gets to watch PBS Spout channel while I clean for a little bit. But it's not frequent!! and he's really not all that interested in it. But anyway, I don't think you are weird or crazy....just smart. :) Keep up the great work, mommy!

    love,
