Christmas Traditions: Favorite Holiday Recipes

Since I have been slipping in the post department, I decided to participate in Take Time Smell The Rose's Christmas Traditions blog meme. This week we are supposed to post our favorite holiday recipes. This was hard since I love food! I was also sort of difficult because while my husband's family has the same thing for every holiday, my family never really has the same menu. My mamaw likes to change things up and try new recipes. She will even assign us certain dishes to bring. While some family members are reluctant to change what they bring, I think it's fun trying new things.

We discovered this truffle recipe at a Fourth of July party a few years ago.
Oreo Truffles
1 package Oreos*
1 8 oz package of cream cheese
melting chocolate or almond bark
toothpicks
*The Oreo packages seem smaller than they used to be, so it works a little better with 1 package, plus some from a row in another package.
Blend the Oreos and cream cheese in the food processor. Form into balls, stick in a toothpick and put in the freezer. (The melting chocolate/ almond bark sticks better if the balls are frozen.) Melt the coating. Then dip the balls into the coating. Cool and serve. Store in the refrigerator.

We have tried all variations: regular Oreos and mint Oreos (family fave) with both the chocolate and almond bark and peanut butter Oreos with chocolate (not a huge hit). I would be interested to know what the Golden Oreos taste like.

Since this is a week late in posting this, I'm only including one recipe.

  1. Thanks for sharing! I had these once when a girl at work made these and loved them! I totally forgot about them though. I never thought of the mint oreos. I will have to make them for a get together this season, yum!
