Just being crafty or nesting?

Last weekend I was able to get caught up on my growing sewing stack. OK I should really say I stopped procrastinating since I have had plenty of time most evenings. I finally replaced the tabs on 9 bumGenius that have been out of commission. We were starting to get desperate because 11 diapers have had to be retired due to some major PUL issues.
So what was in my sewing stack that I finished?
* 9 replacement bumGenius tabs
* 4 pair of fleece longies
* 1 pair of wool longies
* 7 pair of nursing pads
* cross-over tabs on 2 CuteyPie diapers
After making a pair of small longies, I starting thinking I have a problem. I have a lot of fitted diapers and several pair of longies for the baby both fleece and wool to use as covers. The problem is most of the baby shirts we have are onesies. I have other covers too, but I thought the wool and fleece would be nice and warm. It really isn't a huge deal, but something that got me thinking.
I have not been able to locate my nursing pads or camisoles. I assumed they would be with all of my maternity clothes, but since that tub is empty, I have no idea where I put them! So, I started thinking they were probably fairly easy to make. I searched on-line and found a super easy pattern. I didn't even save the link because it was so simple. You need 2 things: flannel and fleece. I cut up 2 receiving blankets and some fleece pajama pants I got at a garage sale. I was going to make them into a diaper cover, but they were a girly print.
I used the top of a 32 oz. cup to make my circles. For daytime use, 2 layers of flannel and for nighttime, I went with 4 layers. Zig-zag stitch around the outside edge and voila, you have a nursing pad! I should have posted pictures with it, but I can't find my camera. Which reminds me... better find that quick!
I also started several more projects. My aunt owns several fabric stores in the Kansas City area. She gave me a diaper pattern for Favorite Little Things and some fabric to make them. Since I am a diaper snob, I am in the process of modifying things. Nothing major, just adding snaps instead of velcro tabs, attempting to make it a two size diaper verses sized and changing the material for the inserts. Also included with the nappy pattern are instructions for a wet bag. I am hoping to have enough PUL to make one. I will take pictures (if I can find my camera) and post about it when I have one finished.

  1. wow you are crafty! :-)

    I have a bunch of old t-shirts and sheets I will be making fitteds for newborn/infant size. I also need to finish up my prefold conversions and pockets. I need nursing pads too! I probably won't get started on mine until after Christmas. I have a lot to do before Christmas that will keep me busy.

    You better find your camera :-D

  2. Ohh my goodness . . . mommies like you intimidate me! Times that I even think that I'm ready to have kids, I remind myself that I'm not very crafty and still pretty selfish. Sad, but true. You, on the other hand, are pretty darn AMAZING! :-) Can't wait to meet the new Jayhawk fan!!
