After Tate had a reaction to disposable diapers, we became a 100% cloth diapering family. So it was an easy decision to start our second baby in cloth right away. When I found out I was pregnant, I emailed the hospital twice to find out what I needed to do to use cloth diapers. No one ever responded, but I took and used them anyway. No one really said a word about me using them. I kept a pail liner next to the toilet for them and a small wet bag for the mama cloth. I went in Wednesday morning and was released Friday afternoon.
Speaking of poop, we had no problem with meconium. I did use disposable liners and some g inserts with various diapers, but it still got on the fabric occasionally. When it got on the fabric, I rinsed it in the toilet.
I tried to take a picture of all the diapers he wore or tried on. All of the pictures are through the first six weeks. Reviewing them, it looks like I forgot to take a picture of him in a kissaluvs size 0 without a cover. Thanks to my cousin, Camille, they made up a majority of our stash. Early on, I used them with just his fleece pajamas as a cover.
Six weeks: Babykicks 3g on the small setting and still have gapping around his legs.
Four weeks: Bamboo Bums- no gapping, no leaks
Six weeks: bumGenius 3.0 still gapped a little around the legs, but original leg elastic and it has been in our stash since December 2008.
Three weeks: Bummis Super Whisper Wrap size small gaps a little around the legs, but Mayer's the 3rd baby to wear it and it's also 2 1/2years old.
Six weeks: Imse Vimse soft cover size small
Mayer's also the 3rd baby to wear this cover. The only drawback is no cross-over tabs.
5 days: Thirsties duo with just the hemp insert. Now we use the thirsties hemp insert with the hemp babies little weeds insert as a booster.
6 days: Flip cover
5 days: AppleCheeks
One week: AppleCheeks- trying to get a good shot for their Christmas photo contest. This was as close as we got to success. :o)
One week: Rumparooz was the first one size diaper that fit him with no leaks or gapping.
Three weeks: Mother-Ease Rikki Wrap is also 2 1/2 years old and Mayer's the 3rd baby to wear it, so the elastic is a little stretched.
One week: Rocky Mountain diaper
Three weeks: sustainablebabyish bamboo fitted
Three weeks: organic Tiny Tush newborn prefolds worn by 3 babies and yes, I use pins with my prefolds
In case you were wondering, the third baby to wear the newborn diapers was my niece, Julianna. If you have any questions, please ask. I am happy to answer, if I can.
Favorite one size: Rumparooz
Favorite fitted: sustainablebabyish
Favorite all-in-two: AppleCheeks
Favorite cover: Thirsties Duo Wrap
** UPDATED ** I found a picture of Mayer in a Kissaluvs size 0 at 3 1/2 weeks.

Thanks for all the pictures and suggestions! I'm excited to see the Rocky Mountain diapers worked really well too because I have a few of those. Wish I had some rumparooz!!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to ask you about your mama cloth! I've been thinking about doing PP mama cloth, but haven't decided for sure. I would make my own of course and have some tutorials bookmarked. Did you make yours or buy them? How did it work out for you, any issues?
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to try making some liners anyway, while I'm snowed in, but it will be boyish flannel ;-) If I can get some stretch knit fabric if the roads aren't too bad this weekend I'm going to attempt to make some nursing gowns too.
Your brave to even use mama cloth at the hospital. Did the nurses think you were crazy?? That would be my only concern. Of course, I have never tried MC at home either. I should though! I want to do CD strait from birth too next time, but not sure if I will use in hospital. We'll see! You've inspired me! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm using Rumparooz on my 18 month old now, we just made the switch 3 months ago. I'm due in May and bought a bunch of lil' joeys. How much did your weigh at 2wks?
