Sew many projects

I should be sewing up diapers and a wet bag instead, I keep finding other projects on some new-to-me blogs! Mayer desperately needs some more diapers, but when I sewed one wrong not once, but twice, I got frustrated. It's still setting on the table with the seam ripper on top. I am still an amateur when it comes to sewing elastic; so when I ran out of thread right after making the initial stitches on another diaper, I just left it in my pile.
As for the wet bag, I have never sewn a zipper and frankly, it makes me nervous. I've read the tutorial on Take Time to Smell the Rose several times and it's bookmarked on my computer. Unfortunately, I only have my phone to use as a reference while at the sewing machine. It's a little too small to be helpful. I hate seam ripping and I know it isn't good to have extra holes in the PUL.
I have been having trouble finding t-shirts for Mayer. He has some fleece and wool longies that he can't wear because 99% of his shirts are onesies. I was able to find a 2 different packages of white side snapping t-shirts, but nothing cute. I decided to make some out of onesies. I'm a lazy seamstress. I would prefer not to hem. It involves too much measuring and if I was really going to do it the way I learned, I'd have to drag out the iron too! Since I don't have a serger, I just zig-zag hemmed the bottom. Then I didn't lose any length either.
Now you can see why I'm leery to try projects, I can't sew a straight line!
I also tried making one out of a 0-3 month sleeper sack.
It's HUGE! There was even so much left off the bottom, it made a perfect skirt. I will be sure to post a picture if it fits my niece, Julianna!
Even though Tate just got 16 pairs of hand-me-down pajamas from his cousins, added to what he already had, he has been bugging me for some new longies. Plus, his nighttime fitted diapers are so big, I hate stretching the PUL covers to fit over them. Some soakers and shorties are on the list before it gets warm outside.

  2. I forgot to say that taking a seam ripper to a knit item is NOT fun! I had to put it down and leave it for a few hours because I knew it would take forever to get out. If I wasn't so frugal with my fabric I would have pitched it in the trash lol

  3. Camille's mother-in-law taught me to think of it as "sewing backwards" :-). And - who needs hems when he's going to grow out of them before they wear out??
