Oh my little baby is trying to grow up too fast! Mayer thinks he is much older than 7 months. During the past month, he has mastered the Army crawl aka croc walk, pulling up to standing, going from laying to sitting up and CRUISING! Seriously?! Nothing in the house is safe. He has also taken an interest in electricity, specifically electrical cords. Since everything goes in his mouth, this is especially dangerous!
He had his 6 month check up on June 27th and he was almost 17 pounds and 27 inches. They actually measured his height the same as his last appointment, but the doctor wasn't concerned. We also took Mayer to an early childhood screening, just as a precaution. If you have early childhood or infant/toddler screenings in your area, I highly recommend taking advantage of them. We did the same thing with Tate and it was how we caught his
speech delay.
Mayer tested above average in everything. Tate's former speech therapist was doing the screening and she gave us some things to work on with Mayer. He puts everything in his mouth, so I thought it was a little odd that he gagged on cheerios or other small pieces of food. I figured maybe he wasn't quite old enough for finger foods yet. I couldn't remember when I started them with Tate. But when the SLP gave him a cherrio, he had the same gag response. She said he has some texture issues. She gave us several things for him to chew on and some other tips for helping deal with it. Hopefully we can reverse the gagging response before it becomes a bigger problem.

She also noted that more often than not, he isn't using his legs to pull himself up. He just straightens his legs and stiffens to get upright. She gave us some different techniques to try with him to help him learn to use and strengthen his legs. I can already tell a difference. Once again, she is training us as parents to help our children develop properly!

He is growing fast! That is neat about the screening. I don't think I've ever heard of those before. So where do you take them for those? And at what age are they typically done?
