(Not So) Wordless Wednesday: The Cake Incident

To quote Tom Hanks playing Jim Lovell in the movie, Apollo 13, "Houston, we have a problem."
Tate's astronaut cake at 11PM, the night before his birthday party. The center was still too warm when I tried to take him out of the pan and he lost his mid-section. I was pretty sure there was no way to frost him in this condition.
But Hollywood messed up the wording. The actual quote came from Apollo 13's command module pilot, Jim Swigert, and is more fitting for the next picture, "Houston, we've had a problem."
My sister-in-law came over at 7AM and Tate got to help her bake the second astronaut cake. I made the frosting, my sister frosted and my sister-in-law decorated him, with creative advice from others. It didn't turn out like we had planned, but it worked "with a little help from my friends," to quote The Beatles (or Joe Cocker depending on which version you like).
As far as Tate was concerned it was great! Thanks to my friend quoting another line from the movie, Apollo 13 and reminding me that, "failure is not an option!" In the eyes of a three year old, it was perfect because underneath the frosting, it was a blue cake shaped like an astronaut, just like he asked for. And to top it all off, he got to help make it. Thank you to everyone else that contributed!

** Interesting side note, if you look up Apollo 13 and Apollo 13 (film) on Wikipedia, the both give credit to the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center for their work. We are so lucky to have such an awesome resource so close!
