Gingerman the Elf

Our family has been having fun with our elf on the shelf, Gingerman. I thought I would share some of the places we have found him. I haven't gotten pictures of all the places. Some have been boring- next to the TV, hugging Policeman Santa, and on top of the medicine cabinet. We have also found him in the refrigerator (after he turned all the milk blue); in the boys' toy kitchen eating kisses (since he didn't get to all of them before we caught him, there was enough for Tate and Mayer); on top of the Christmas tree with the star on his head; riding one of the trains through the Whistling Woods and he started cooking Mayer's birthday brunch, fell in head first and spent the entire party upside-down in a pot.
We have found him performing a concert for the nativity scene with Mr. PotatoHead and PotatoKid. It looks like Mr. PotatoHead is trying to be Gene Simmons with that tongue!
Apparently, he likes to crash the nativity scene.
Here we caught Gingerman driving a tractor, bringing more animals, some hay bales and a fence.

If you look close you can see he caught a fish! Unfortunately, by the time Tate found him, there wasn't any water left in the sink and his canoe was high-centered.
Gingerman and Sophie left a birthday message for Mayer. They also shared a cornbread muffin with a candle and left a treat- marshmallows, chocolate chips, cheerios, and raisins topped with glitter sprinkles.
This is a gingerbread house Tate made. He left the roof off so you could see the furniture he made. Gingerman (sometimes Tate also calls him Gingerbread Man) thought it was a perfect house for him!
We found him sitting on the couch, eating a sucker!
Tate did such an amazing job, so here's another view of the gingerbread house with some of the details labeled.
We did have one mishap with Gingerman and we were afraid his magic was lost. He was sitting on Tate's shelf next to The Count (as in Count von Count, of Sesame Street). We figured they were probably singing one of Tate's favorite Christmas Carols on his Sesame Street Christmas CD, "All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth." Anyway, Tate decided to pull every.single.book off his book shelf. Then he just happened to be reaching for another stuffed animal when Gingerman and The Count just fell down too. While we were carefully putting the books back on the shelf, so we didn't touch him, Mayer came in and grabbed Gingerman! Thankfully, after we came back from lunch with Grandma and Pa, he was safely back on the shelf.
I really need to give Gingerman some bendable body parts. Kim, from Dirty Diaper Laundry, posted a great tutorial. I am pretty sure we have some heavy enough wire at work, but I'm not exactly sure where to find it and I keep forgetting to ask my dad and brother. I have some velcro too. I think it would be so much easier to position him!
Have you been having fun with your Elf too? I would love to hear some places other elves have been found. I've even had a good laugh at the ideas in the Inappropriate Elf Contest.

  1. I can't WAIT until Eli is old enough to appreciate Elf on the Shelf. Definitely going our "traditions to-do" list!
