Wet-Dry Bag

We have one wet/ dry bag and it's my favorite for outings. I saw a tutorial for how to make one out of a fat quarter, but I didn't save the link and now I can't find it. I picked up some fabric scraps at a garage sale and decided to make one of my own. There are so many variations to this, but the materials I used for mine: fabric scrap, PUL, zipper, snaps, and tie down strap.
Since I used scraps, I don't really have a measurement for the amount of fabric. Maybe you can tell from the picture. I doubled it over so I would have a pocket on both sides. I wanted enough room for an emergency pair of undies, a diaper and wipes. The tutorial I saw only had a pocket on one side. It also had two zipper closures (one for the wet and one for the dry pocket).

I made my PUL 5" taller and the same width as my dinosaur fabric.
I measured a 1/2" fold for the exposed edge of the pocket fabric. I have also discovered the benefits of ironing your hems, a step I would prefer to skip to save time, but I have found it is important not to.
Then I folded it down another 1/2" to finish the edge, so the fabric wouldn't fray when I washed it.
I stitched the hems on both ends of the pocket fabric.
I centered the fabric on my PUL and "pinned" it with paper clips. I didn't want any extra holes to cause leaking in the PUL.

Next, I measured the right-side of the zipper to the right side of the PUL. My zipper is a thrift store find, so it was a little long, but it works.
I used paper clips to hold it in place... well sort of, PUL is slippery and has a mind of its own! The bag is inside-out, but sew the zipper and PUL with right-sides together.
Sew up the sides of the bag
(Note: open the zipper a little before sewing up the sides completely, I almost panicked trying up unzip the closed zipper from the wrong side, lol.)
 Square off the bottom corners
The pocket is on both sides.
Ack... I sewed up the sides and forgot to add my strap! Carefully seam rip and add it.
Since my pocket is so wide, I measured out for multiple snaps.
 I think about 2"-2 1/2".
I cut a reinforcement square to add to the snap on the PUL side.
Blond moment: put the reinforcement square on the inside and it will look better!

Finished bag!
With summer coming soon, I think I need to make a few more for swimming lessons.
