I was looking for projects to get rid of a bunch of scraps. I have been wanting to make the boys stuffed animals and had been wondering if I could stuff it with small fabric pieces instead of using batting. I got the perfect opportunity to try it when I found a giraffe pattern. Fabric scraps work great as a substitute for batting, in this case anyway.Tate decided cashmere wasn't itchy after all, especially when it came in the form of his favorite animal. He loves it!
Why did it take me so long to finish? I got bored cutting fleece, wool and t-shirt scraps and stuffing the giraffe. It took more than I anticipated. It involved hand stitching, which I'm not very good at. Tate also insisted that it HAD to have ossicones and I had no idea how I was going to manage that. It worked just doubling up embroidery floss and tying a knot at the top.
Why did it take me so long to finish them? I thought it would be cute to add a fly using the buttons from the sleeve. I was also hoping the button would be functional and I wouldn't have to add elastic to make them fit. I used this technique when I made a skirt for myself out of the rest of the shirt. Since I didn't have a pattern and I was making it up as I went, I had some trouble with the layout. I got frustrated and set them aside for a few weeks. They obviously didn't work out as I had planned, but the boys will still wear them.
I also have a big stack of my pants and jeans that need altering. I finished making a pair of wide leg pants into straight leg. I finally measured and pinned the rest of them too. I want to get my list completed before I start on some other projects. Plus, it always feels good to finish what you start.
