I guess I just never thought about recycling my clothes so I could wear them again. I resized a few t-shirts, but this taking in jeans was a lot harder. I had a general guide for my t-shirts, by using another shirt as a pattern. I used a pair of jeans that was one size too big. I was just looking to make a straight leg and take in the waist a little. The best tutorial I found was for resizing. All of my jeans are boot cut and since I wanted to go to a straight leg, I didn't have a good visual. I didn't take too many pictures along the way because the project took an unexpected turn. My attempt at straight leg jeans turned into skinny jeans!
The left side is before and the right is after.
I'm not exactly sure where I went wrong. Everything I read said try the jeans on inside out and mark where you want them. I guess I marked what I wanted to end up with and forgot about a seam allowance. Most tutorials I saw had you cut the jeans before sewing. The tutorial I used as a general guide didn't cut hers, so I thought I was safe. It was probably a good thing I was too nervous to cut them before I sewed. I sewed my first darts on this project and I did cut there.
Thankfully they are still wearable! Here's the finished product:
