Sweater Refashion #1

I have never been a huge fan of turtlenecks. I blame my mom for giving me vampire kisses growing up. She would say, "I vant to drink your blood!" and tickle our necks with her chin. She claims it is actually a trait I inherited from my dad because he doesn't like tight things around his neck either. (An explanation that obviously makes her feel better about traumatizing me... Do I do the same thing to my boys? Absolutely! Mayer loves vampire kisses and Tate, not so much.)

I found this sweater at the Goodwill. I have worn it several times without any issues. For some reason, even the cowl neck was driving me crazy the last time I wore it, so I decided to give it a refashion.
I noticed that the neck was attached separately. I took pictures, but they didn't turn out well enough to show the detail. I figured I would be ok if I just cut that part off, like I would rip a seam. I wanted to see if there were any examples, just to reassure myself. I was able to find one tutorial and it confirmed my theory.
I ran into one snag, literally. When I cut around one of the shoulders, the sweater started to unravel. Luckily, I had researched and was expecting it. I used some grey thread and a needle to stitch it together.

My mom also benefits from this refashion. Because it would drive me crazy to wear, she has a new cowl neck scarf! I hemmed the raw edge with my sewing machine using a 3-stitch zigzag so it would not come unraveled.
