It's the way we roll: Cloth Diaper Carnival #3- Travelling with cloth

In the past 13 months, our diapers have logged thousands of miles, criss-crossing the 82,282 square miles across the state of Kansas. From multiple overnight trips to Satanta and Russell, to several day trips to Wichita and Lawrence. For us, there is no other way to travel. We wash when we can but usually wait until we get home.
The furthest from home they have been was to La Veta, Colorado. That was probably the biggest adventure in cloth diapering for us. I wrote about it here and here. We pretty much stuck to our normal routine. It was touch and go at the end of the trip whether or not we would have enough diapers to last. It was also the longest we have gone in between washes. I was worried about mold or something else happening to them. I love our stash and get a little protective, OK well really obsessive about it!
Pre-travelling to Colorado, I wrote my favorite travel post, The Alphabet Game. I see now why my parents wanted us to play the game in the car; it was fun and helped me procrastinate packing! Not that I needed any extra help with that!
The other travelling cloth diaper experience other than to visit family was the trip to Wilson Lake. We went for a long weekend to celebrate my birthday (yes, happy birthday to me- 6 adults and a baby with sleep issues sharing a camper!). The sleep issues proved to be the bigger obstacle than the cloth diapering. We kept a large wet bag by the stool. We carried smaller wet bags with us on the boat and dumped it all into the large bag at the end of the day. Easy Peasy!
I still have quite a few g diaper inserts left from my baby shower that I could use to make things easier if I wanted, but we really haven't had any major trouble cloth diapering across our great state (and once across the border). I would use them in a heartbeat if we were travelling further from home or on a plane. The biggest thing is not to stress about it. There are always options and other cloth diapering mamas willing to share advice or their experiences. All you have to do is ask!

  1. I'm so impressed you went camping with cloth! We're going to be using gdiapers on our next two trips. I don't think I have enough to get us through the whole weekend.

  2. I'm also very impressed with all your travels with cloth!!! Good for you :) I'm still a cheat and switch to disposables for travel (I have 2 in cloth and dont have nearly enough to last more than 2 days - I am always doing laundry - lol!).
